Wisdom from the resident B-man (aka business manager)
Things I’ve Learned at Tapawingo This Summer
- Separating the mail is one of the funnest jobs on the island. Sometimes I have to fight off people who try to steal this job from me.
- The slushy machine is possessed – how can so much good come out of something so evil?
- Clipboards & stenos are Miss Joy’s favorite office supplies. They also happen to be completely outdated everywhere else in the business world.
- CampBrain is brilliant. I am not.
- No matter what staff position you hold at Tapawingo, rest hour consistently remains one of the best parts of the day.
- The Camp-of-the-Woods radio is one of the best forms of entertainment on the island, and quite possibly in the entire world. “10 to 19. There’s a code 2 in the Tibbits women’s room.” “This is 19. Can you repeat that?” “19 this is 5. 10 is saying there’s a code 2 that you need to take care of in Purdy.” “10 to 19. I said there’s a code 2 in Tibbits.” “19 to 5. Was that code 2 in Shawnee?” “15 to all units: SHUT UP”
- It is possible to be business manager and still get that summer tan.
- Camper parents. Sigh.
- Miss Joy keeps talking about how she wants a dog out here. I hope that NEVER happens – this island couldn’t handle it.
- The next time someone donates $1,000,000 to Tapawingo, I suggest we invest in a complete overhaul of all island technology/electronics. My dream is to make the island wireless, paperless and cordless. WOOT.
