We are now in the third week of staff training. Crazy. Here’s what we are up to: lifegaurd training, archery certification, huge hike day Thursday, sleep out on the beach tomorrow, Deerfoot Wednesday and lots and lots of activity area training (woo!) Tonight we successfully completed epi-pen training with Cindy Rumsey (what a sweetie) from COTW and currently the sounds of the counselors practicing the welcome program can be heard all over the island. This year they have chosen “Party in the USA” and some random latin dance song as their welcome and rules song. They are both pretty hilarious and as of right now, look like a massive dance party on stage. Should be interesting…
I had an extremely productive day in the office, so I figured I would take this time to introduce you all to some new people who are gracing our staff this summer. As I said yesterday, this staff is nuts. I have never seen a group of counselors more amped up and excited about being here, and who enjoy just spending time together like these girls do. It certainly makes my job easy because they are so into everything we do. I know God is going to BIG things through them this summer and our girls are definitely going to have a good time…Ok here we go:
1. Miss Ali- this girl is HILARIOUS. She is Miss Brielle’s friend from home (major character reference there) and is a dance therapy major. She loves to walk around the island barefoot, say outrageous things and just generally make people laugh.
2. Miss Becky- another ridiculous person. She is a ginger like me and before she came, Joy and Kim both told me that we were similar. Well…we are. Kinda freaky. She is also quite crazy and can make you laugh by looking at you.
3. Miss Rachel- I have never seen someone more excited to be here than Rachel. She is incredible at piano too and yesterday during activity area training just started pounding out “Mighty to save” on the piano. It ended up being a sweet, spontaneous worship time for us and will be a memory I cherish for a long time.
4. Miss Lucy- First of all, Lucy is from Kenya which is legit. Favorite story about Lucy: yesterday she catapulted me out of a canoe because when trying to get in, she put all of her weight on one side of the boat instead of reaching across. She miraculously ended up in the boat and I ended up 15 feet away in the water. Haha!
5. Miss Jessie- Jessie is the long-lost, identical twin of Bekah Tripp and therefor is hilarious. She laughs at all my jokes too, which I obviously love :) She is definitely the servant of the group too and is always the one to volunteer to help you do ANYTHING. Oh and she has a killer arm- def on my team for Ultimate.
6. Miss Charis- Charis is adorable and I like to refer to her as “peanut.” Her laugh is seriously contagious and she can make anything fun. Becky has decided to pronounce her name “Sharees” and apparently during WFA training Ken Heck decided to call her that as well. Oh goodness.
I guess that’s what I’ll leave you with for now. More later…Life is great here though and I am truly enjoying every moment.
